A Nightmare

0

Dear Father, Mother, Charlie and Charlotte,

The battles are raging here. It has already been over a year I’ve been away from you. I don’t count the number of times I read your letters to find a bit of buoy up. It’s in your smiles that I find the strength to smile. I never felt a winter being so cold, but one day I’ll come back.

I’ve missed you so much. Life at the trench is hard, but I am happy to represent my nation, and to protect you all making our family respected. Life in the trench wasn’t as easy as I thought. I wake up in morning to the rush of water that passes through the trenches. A daily routine of this life starts in the early morning, one hour before dawn. The orderly officer and the sergeant awake everyone else and we are ordered to climb upon the first step to guard a sawn raid by the enemy, bayonets fixed. I stand behind the sand backs waiting and waiting without a signs of attack. No signs so they would order us to clean our rifles. It wasn’t so much a pleasure, but something that must be done. Officers would then check if we’ve done an excellent job. The orderly officer would repeat that ‘to win this war every thing shall excel. We do not tolerate any mediocre to satisfactory job. We represent our nation men.’

Breakfast is served next. All the men including me feel the hunger at this time. I eat my bread as an ogre would eat it. There was no more humanity at that time. No more education that you gave me. We were are savages. After the infamous breakfast we are assigned daily chores. Examples of them would be the refilling of the sandbags, the repair of the duckboards on the floor of the trench, and the draining of the trench. The rain had fallen for several days, and without any sealing the trench accumulated muddy water making our life ever so miserable. The trench is prone to collapse at any moment, while we’re sleeping or while we’re awake it is always an anxiety.

Front lines were always under watched by snipers like myself, and lookouts during daylight until night fell. I try to snatch a ten-minute nap every time I can. Though even worse than these daily boredoms were our worst enemy. The trench rats are all, but normal rats. Those scoundrels infested us in millions. I don’t mind so much the black rat, we learn how to go with them, but my fear is for the brown rats. Those vermin’s were the size of a cat. No one felt secure around them, we fear them, and we despise them. The enemy was enough for us, but in addition these lowlife threatening rogue gorge themselves on human remains. I still can’t forget the time where one of the men was attacked by one of them. It tried to eat his eyes grotesquely disfiguring him in the face. The man had to go back to the main camp for help, and we still don’t know if he survived the attack or not.

Rats weren’t the only nuisance. We have to adapt ourselves to other parasites such as frogs and lice. Lice were worse. They caused trench fever. It seemed doesn’t sound harmful, but once you experience it you know how serious it is. At the beginning you feel severe pain through your body, and then the high fever. I wasn’t useful; I was only a sick man that they took back to the main camp, but they needed me back and in an instant I was back to the nightmare. The smell of rotting carcasses, dried sweat from us when we didn’t take a bath for several weeks, poison gas, creosol, chloride of lime rotting sandbags, stagnant mud, cigarette smoke and cooking food. Without forgetting the trench foot disease, which makes it difficult to walk.

At night all becomes gloomy. I don’t feel safe, yet it’s the only time I find to write you a latter. I miss you all.

Sincerely, Rodger

Typical Problems

0

A typical problem that a teenager might encounter in her or his life is his hormones. It is typical when you get to a certain age that girls and boys become attracted to each other. Then when a girl for example has her boyfriend she needs to give him time and she wants to go out with him. Afterwards she gets in trouble with her perhaps mother or father and she rebels. Her parents would tell her she spends to much time outside. Then that person does exactly what her parents didn't want, she goes and doesn't come back until an extravagant time. The girl will be punished, but that won't stop her. She hangs out with her friends, and they start doing drugs and drinking. She gets involved with another boy and loses her big V. People start calling her all kinds of names, and then one day she discovers that she did it all wrong and she will regret.

Typical Teenage Life!

Solution: Parents at first choice should leave a bit of freedom to their child, but not too much.

Progressive thinkers

0

Progressive thinkers, what are progressive thinkers? Are they people who think better than others? Or are they people who start to think and progress in that case? Well no they are nor one or the other. A progressive thinker is favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform, as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are, especially in political matters.

In Morocco the 39-year-old King Mohamed VI is a progressive thinker. He is encouraging tourism and promotes cultural expansion in the imperial cities such as Casablanca, Marrakesh, Meknes, Agadir, Rabat, and Fez. Because of its location Morocco is the doors of North Africa blessed by the weather of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean.

Most tourists in research of the real think, a preserved and authentic culture with not much cost look forward to Morocco. With the diversity came craftsmen producing carpets, pottery, leather goods, woodcrafts, and mosaics.

The King Mohamed VI is a progressive thinker, wasting lots of money on cultural attractions that could attract tourism. Businessmen in Morocco expand their business making new hotels and a comfortable environment for tourist. These progressive thinkers have only one goal in mind and it’s to make their nation better in every aspect.

Imperialism a policy

1

Imperialism is a bad and good affect on American history; the policy by a stronger nation to attempt to create an empire by dominating weaker nation economically, politically, culturally, or militarily.

WHO? In this case it is the United States in 1890-1915.

WHY? There are many points to why they wanted to expand.

1. A policy of extending a country’s power and through diplomacy or military force. It is in the ESPRAT+G related.

· Military expanses --- technology ---- fear ---- competitive ---- arms race

· Nationalism: cultural superiority

· Economic gains ---- competitiveness

· Excuses: Manifest Destiny ---- Socialism

· Humanitarianism ---- justification

2. It began to extend geographically and politically. It expanded the interests of it’s technology and sciences through out first the rural side of the country, then the other countries beside them.

3. The arguments that were made were to expand they’re countries knowledge and sciences to other countries through out the globe.

· Promoting economic American growth.

· --- More markets

· --- Resources

· --- Refueling

· Market protection

· --- Navy

· Manifest Destiny

The US was a young country that was just liberated from war. After they got their freedom from the British, Americans have experienced some hard time. After the civil war, they have experience a time of economic growth and utter confusion and inequality. Afterwards the Americans were hungry for expansion. They wanted to become a part of the first class nations equaling European nations like France and United Kingdom. They also wanted to move from second-class nation to first class nation.

Economic Factors: the growth of industry in Europe created an increased need for natural resources, which came from undeveloped areas of the world. Manufacturing nation also required new markets in which to sell their manufactured goods.

Nationalistic factors: Competition among European nations for large empires was a rise of nationalism:

1. National spirit or aspirations.

2. Devotion and loyalty to ones own nation; patriotism.

3. Excessive patriotism; chauvinism

4. The desire for national advancement or independence

5. The policy or doctrine of asserting the interests of one’s own nation, viewed as separate from the interest of other nations or the common interests of a nation.

It usually suggested that a nation’s people believe themselves, their ideals, and their goals of being superior to the other nations.

Military factors: Advances in military technology produced European armies and navies that were far superior to those in Africa and Asia. Europe’s growing navies required bases for taking on fuel and supplies.

Humanitarian factors: Humanitarian and religious goals spurred on imperialists. Colonial officials, doctors, and missionaries believed they had a duty to spread the blessing of Western civilization, including its law, medicine, and Christian religion.

To show the US at this time a timeline would be needed.

1890: Alfred T. Mahan’s urges the United states to build a powerful navy to protect markets abroad.

1893: American business groups, with the help of US Marines, overthrow Hawaii’s queen and set up a provisional government.

1895: Cuba rebels against Spanish rules.

1898: The U.S.S. Marine exploded of the coast of Havana, Cuba, killing more than 250 US sailors. Outraged Americans convinced congress to declare war on Spain.

1900: The Boxer Rebellion erupts in China.

1903: Panama gives the United States control over the Panama Canal.

1904: President Roosevelt issues the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. Big Stick Diplomacy, a nickname coined by Roosevelt in quoting the old African proverb “Speak softly and carry a big stick, and you will go far,” was the foreign policy that was later called the Roosevelt Corollary. It is an addition to the Monroe Doctrine of 1823. The Roosevelt Corollary stated that the United States had the right to enforce an “international police power” over the Western Hemisphere. It affirmed that other countries did not have the authority to cause unrest in the Western Hemisphere, most specifically in reference to conflicts between Europe and Latin America in the early 1900’s.

Eventually, the phrase “Big Stick” was used in reference to any foreign policy that made negotiations with diplomatic grace, backed by the possible threat of military force.

1905: Japan defeats Russia in the Russo-Japanese War.

1907: The Great White Fleet tours the world as a display of the impressive naval power of the US.

1908: Austria annexes Bosnia and Herzegovina.

1912: The first Balkan War begins.

1914: President Wilson sends troops to Mexico to assist Mexican revolutionaries.

1914: WORLD WAR 1 BEGINS.

Imperialism had its own good and bad sides. It helped Americans expand their whole nation around the world, but it also brought negative sides as when nations were took over. In my point of view I am on neither sides because I think that imperialism could be good or bad, and all depends on whom.

· Name of Company: SWA (Sea Wheels Automobiles)

· Products of Company:Car that goes on water

· Horizontal Nature of the Company (Explain each segment and where it is located): The shape of the car will be done in the steel factory. After it has it's parts it will be sent to the glass factory to have windows and the rubber company will make the skies and the wheels that would permit the car to go on water (skies) and on the ground (wheels). The plastic factory will be in charge of the materials inside the car's engine. The leather company will be in charge of the seats inside the car, and all other components. After all the materials are ready, they will be gathered by SWA and our company ensemble them.

· Vertical Nature of the Company (Explain each segment and where it is located): Our company is in charge of all the products. We make the form with the steel in our company, same as the glass windows and rubber and plastic. We buy from others all the raw materials needed and we do it with out making anyone participate. We work on different things at a time.

· Energy (Explain where each segment gets its energy whether for offices or manufacturing):Hydroelectric energy for manufacturing.

· Raw Materials- Resources (used to create the products):Glass, steel, rubber, plastic, Leather

· Labor (who will be your workers at each location- what is your payment plan- what is your healthcare plan (if you have one) etc.):My workers are going to be experienced car workers because this vehicle will be able to go on the ground as well as on water. I will take 5% of my earnings and I will pay the workers with that. Or else I will make a compromise with them.

· Government and Regulations (how will you work with the government and its regulations upon you):I will tell the government that i will start the exhibit in the International Car Fair; and if people are highly interested in it then we will start selling it. There will be insurance if any accidents happen etc.

· Profits (Explain to Mr. Buffet how you will make profits): I will make my profits through the insurance that people pay and the selling of cars. I will add 30% to the actual cost that I paid to make the car.

INTRODUCTION

Dear Mr. Buffet,

This is the new Sea Wheels Automobiles Company, and we would like to inform you that this company is going to help the future of our environment become a better future. Our planet is in danger today because of pollution. One of the major polluters is an automobile. Therefore, the SWA decided to create a company that will help reduce vehicle combustion. We did this by creating a very special car that works with hydroelectric energy. This vehicle has wheels to go on the road as well as skies to go on water. This means our company created a 2 in 1 vehicle that will not only try to replace vehicles but also boats. We will try to give an opportunity to wealthy countries to try our car and then we will see its affect on the environment.

Now that I'm rich:

Now that I am a millionaire I will change the world by donating lots of my money earned by my cars into studies that will not only help us fight against pollution but also studies about sicknesses. Cancer is one of our main problems and we need money to help people into finding a solution. My millions of dollars will also be helpful to countries in the third world that have barely enough money to give their people what to eat. Making shelters and hospitals for young children seems to also be a good idea.

Socratic Seminar

1

The point that was done during the seminar was more about the way to rid yourself out of the conflict. The thing we learned most is how to admit that you are wrong and how to say sorry. What helped to move the dialogue forward is the way we related the subject to other that are historic or that are done right now. We related them to our conversation either related to political or economical projects. At a point there were different ideas but no true debate was done because no one actually contradicted what someone had said. It was just that we got so into a subject that drove us out of the subject. Not very much domination but there were people who talked more than others and there are people who didn't talk at all. The evidence that people were involved in the conversation was more because they participated and always had an idea to share. The understanding of the question has been clarified to me because i made relationships between them and historical events that i knew and explored the ways it is similar and the way they are different. I don't really want to change any ideas that i had in the seminar so I'm staying with it. The best part of the seminar was when we go together to form the ideas. The worst part was when some people were drooling around and didn't say anything, and they had their own conversations. Though i don't really want to change anything in the seminar so i think it was good enough.

Massachusetts Senate poll loss threatens Obama's agenda

2
Tuesday 19 of January 2010, the republican Scott Brown has won and immense victory in the US senate seat in the state of Massachusetts left by the Senator Edward Kennedy who died. This is a problem that stands against President Obama's healthcare program who which is now doubtful of being. This will make the president's job even harder to pass the bill and now the most domestic policy is against him for his first year as a leader of the United States.

Positives and Negatives of the Reconstruction

0

In the map for the end of reconstruction it clearly shows that the popular votes were won by the Democrat Samuel J. Tilden but subsides a problem is that the electoral votes were won by the Republican Rutherford B. Hayes. This was a failure of the reconstruction because the states' government did not put in a law that is of which of the electoral votes or popular votes would be counted as the winners. There was also a failure in the states of Louisiana, Florida, South Carolina and Oregon because the votes were a shared because in the states existed both the democratic and republican parties. There is also a failure such as the Klan that which consisted of ancient confederates that would go and kill the republicans, black people and other people that may not agree with them. The poverty in the south still didn't change because there was a large portion of freed men and white men that remained poor and in the situation as before. The south's industrialization wasn't very successful for that purpose. There is also the fact that people still didn't think of black African Americans as the same as them but they thought of them as an inferior race.

The successes were that first of all the south and north got back together even if there was still enough tension between them. At the end there was the compromise of 1877 when the southern democrats agreed to give Hayes the presidency but in exchange he should remove the southern troops still present in the southern states. It also marked the end of the reconstruction. The southerners were free because the federal troops were gone and African American didn't risk anything because the thirteenth amendment has already gave them their freedom. Both Southerners and African Americans are winners and it is also important because they would be more free in the economic side. This was a great success because both parties were winners. There was also the come back of the southern economy and the increase and extension of an already present economy in the north. There was the Enforcement Act of 1870 which banned terror, force, bribery or other offensive actions to enforce the law. It was more pointed towards the KKK which was the most offensive thing right than. It was interesting that this law was made and I agree with it because it prevented from further murders and horrors present in that time of crisis. It also helped people air and not be scared. There were also the new amendments added to the constitution for further civil rights. This was a success but than later in history it wasn't the case and the difference between the whites and African Americans were different. That brought to them the civil rights act of 1964. Also there was success with the project of helping the freemen and their family to find new homes, jobs and reconstruct their lives in education. It is very important because after the war the freedmen were poor without any place to live and nothing to live on. The government like many of the present days governments helped them with their lives. Last but not least the southern states grew in their economy but also the education was enhanced to a system of mandatory education level which is very important because it change the education of the south and schools in the south that were basically based on military.
